DOKTOR THRILL
AS ARCHETYPAL LOVER

In my art, I paint a smooth talking character named Doktor Thrill. His romantic lady loves( for the evening) include a blonde (Snake Lady), a brunette (Blue Angel), and a red head (Lotta Heat). They all hang around, hoping to catch Doktor Thrill's eye. The setting is somewhere in the thirties and the forties.But the era is more like The Great Gatsby and Tender Is The Night (Fitzgerald). The message is eternal: man and woman seeking each other.

For me, Doktor Thrill and his dazzling women represent universal archetypes who seek and pursue each other. Doktor Thrill chases those attributes of himself that he perceives in others, namely exciting women. As such, he attempts to rediscover himself. The ladies are doing the same, but they want one thing: DOKTOR THRILL.

As the artist of this fantasy drama, I see Doktor Thrill as my alter ego, who plays out the dreams that most men entertain, and I direct this on going movie in all the paintings that I create. Doktor Thrill becomes the semaphore by which the game of love is undertaken, night after night in all the racy clubs of the world. especially New York, Paris, and you name the place and time.

While he plays out his dreams on a canvas stage, Doktor Thrill's adventures  (which are thrilling and may be true) are part of a repartee to keep the game of love heated and exhilarating. For Thrill is the name, and love is the game.

On into the evening this love chase continues and everyone dresses smartly, rides in vintage autos, prop airplanes, chain driven motor bikes, and they all cruise to adventure and hopefully LOVE.

    Welcome to a new dimension of Earl Linderman's Art. I call it the Beautiful Woman Series. This new emphasis in my art deals with all the women in the world who are REAL but not victimized by the stress of the culture to look and act like a bunny chick to please a man.

    In this new series, I see woman as an intelligent thinker, embued with common sense and good judgment. A real person who doesn't any longer buy into the hoopla that beckons to adorn women with 5" spiked kiss me quick heels, deep red lipstick, and plastique augmentation.

    I envision woman in the truest sense of her being, as a warm hearted person who can be a partner with man, a friend, and companion. This woman has a brain and knows how to use it.

    Through Doktor Thrill as a vehicle, I want to show the Beautiful Woman not as a siren, not as a seductive long lashed lovely, not woman as a tempter.

    My new Beautiful Woman will be smart, kind, nurturing, wise, understanding, with good humor, and having an enthusiasm for life in general. She becomes a woman as woman as person who has character and commands respect in all situations. And she doesn't take smart alecs kindly.

    I want to paint my Beautiful Woman in varying landscapes of thought both realistically and abstractly rendered.

    My interpretation of woman is not static, or cornball, or stereotyped, but a person who is filled with mysteries and complexities that comprise what a Beautiful Woman can  be.

    My kind of Beautiful Woman is not a remnant of a Hollywood flick. She is not an avatar.

    My Beautiful Woman is tasteful, erudite, alluring in her own natural beauty and individuality. She is educated, perceptive, alert, sharp, attentive, with good humor, and is becoming in the fullest sense of the word.

     My paintings of this Beautiful Woman Series will reflect my own attempts to paint what a Beautiful Woman of this magnitude means to me.

    The Beautiful Woman Series begins with Number 1, 2, 3, and so on to infinity. I think the Beautiful Woman Series makes a nice complement to the crazee and exciting adventures of Doktor Thrill who also lives in my imagination.

ABOUT ARTIST EARL LINDERMAN:

    In the course of his artistic career, Mr. Linderman earned a doctorate from Pennsylvania State University. He is a former professor of painting and drawing at Arizona State University in Tempe, where he taught for 27 years.

    Earl Linderman's art is known internationally; And is held in many museums and private collections. He has had numerous one person exhibitions of his art in major museums and commercial galleries. Earl Linderman has become a brilliant and innovative artist in our time.
